People sustainability
People Sustainability is about putting people and society at the center of everything we do. People and society depend on transport. Sustainable transport makes life better for people, strengthens economies and keeps society moving forward.
A sustainable transport system should be clean, safe, efficient, inclusive and resilient to serve people and society and minimise negative social and environmental impact. Through our solutions, we are helping our customers address major social challenges such as air and noise pollution, congestion, road safety and unequal access to transport.
In the transformation to a sustainable transport system we are dependent on people, and we impact on the lives of many through the transformative decisions that we make. We believe in a Just Transition – no one should loose while others win in the transformation, and it requires that we put people and society at the centre on this journey.
As a result, we become better at not solving one sustainability challenge by creating new ones. As an example, transformational changes in our industry, such as the development of electrified products, requires that we have a plan for how to address the consequences across the value chain.
Scania is dependent on people in everything we do, and we have an impact on the lives of millions of people every day, both directly and indirectly.
Our people
Our people sustainability work starts with our own employees. In 2020 we implemented the Scania People Perspective, containing minimum standards for all employees globally. We also, in close dialogue with our union colleagues, defined a roadmap including milestones aiming at further improving the work-life for our employees globally.
We believe that the key to being a successful and sustainable company as well as making the transition just in the shift towards a sustainable transport system is social dialogue, and our engagement with the multi-stakeholder partnership Global Deal reflects this belief.
Scania has an impact on a large number of people through our supply chain. We also recognise that important human rights risks are found in our raw material supply chains. In 2020 we established our raw material due diligence system created with our partners in the Volkswagen Group and through our industry alliance Drive Sustainability.
Transparency and cooperation are key for promoting positive change throughout our supply chain and we expect our business partners to take responsibility together with us.
Customers and transport users
Sustainable transport solutions improve life for users and contributes to social development. We are helping our customers address challenges, such as cities and suburbs suffering from the effects of badly-planned transportation systems: air and noise pollution, congestion, road safety and unequal access to transport. We also engage in dialogue with stakeholders to ensure that the transport system evolves in a way that is socially sustainable. One example is our work on fair transport in our logistics network where we work in partnerships to improve working conditions for drivers.
Communities
Scania strives to ensure our business has a positive impact in communities around the world where we do business. We operate in countries where protection of human rights is weak, and we understand this requires more of our ability to manage human rights impact through our tools and processes.
Wherever we operate in the world, Scania’s and our employees are passionate about making a contribution to society, and we support a number of initiatives in which our employees take part.
